Barbados Weather and Hurricane Safety
Barbados is located on the southeastern edge of the Caribbean and is generally considered outside the main hurricane belt. While no Caribbean island is completely immune to storms, Barbados experiences far fewer hurricanes than islands further north and west. Thanks to its location, most storms form in the Atlantic and curve northward, missing Barbados entirely.
Historically, direct hits have been extremely rare. Hurricane Janet (1955) was the last major storm to make landfall, and even recent storms like Hurricane Elsa (2021) and Beryl (2024) brought only strong winds and rain with minimal disruption.

Importantly, hurricanes are always predicted well in advance, giving plenty of time for precautionary measures. If weather conditions ever require it, Wet & Salty Sailing School will adjust schedules to ensure a seamless and safe experience. The beauty of Barbados is that sailing is a year-round adventure, with warm trade winds and turquoise waters offering some of the best sailing conditions in the Caribbean!
